Core Innovation

The core innovation is the single-sex cohort looping model, which provides small cohorts of boys of color with rigorous instruction that promotes core subject matter learning while also developing social intelligence and leadership skills through collaboration and a broad range of life experiences. The program is focused on serving students who have been traditionally marginalized and impacted by school-based microaggressions.

Boys Lab is committed to providing a high-quality curriculum that is guaranteed and viable. Currently, our students engage in standards-based lessons that are culturally relevant and responsive. All curriculum is highly rated by and is culturally and socially relevant and responsive.

Boys Lab is committed to providing a space where boys are physically and emotionally safe. An educational space that is free of microaggressions and overly-punitive disciplinary approaches.

Boys Lab is committed to involving parents in the educational experience of their children. Parents are provided multiple communications to track both academic performance and behavioral growth. There are myriad opportunities for parents to engage during the school day and outside of school time.

Boys Lab is committed to forming strong teacher-scholar relationships to ensure students are not subject to micro-aggressive tendencies. Through purposeful collaboration between adults and students and positive peer relationships, there is a focus on building healthy bonds, which will lead to lifelong support networks, expectantly leading to successful lives.

Boys Lab is purposed to provide a learning environment that allows all scholars the opportunity to develop a balanced approach to learning by strengthening their verbal, spatial, kinesthetic, auditory, and iconic skills. A place where scholars can explore different ways of learning, and where they (students) are the stars.
