The consistent underperformance of Black males requires that alternative educational approaches are researched and implemented to significantly improve the life trajectory of Black male students.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The goal was to determine the effectiveness of building positive teacher-student and student-student relationships as a tool to engage Black male learners in urban schools, which may lead to increased academic achievement.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Addressing the educational, social, and cultural needs of Black males through the implementation of emerging and promising pedagogical practices may improve the scholastic attitudes of Black males.
CRITICAL RACE THEORY
The application of CRT to the classroom dramatically shifts the nature and scope of schooling for students of color, specifically those educated in urban schools. CRT offers a critical lens that enables a discourse about race, class, and gender.
